Jockey Glen Boss has already picked Tuscan Fire as this year’s winner of the Group 2 Adelaide Cup at Morphettville Racecourse on Saturday March 11, 2013.
The six-year-old has won his past two race starts at Flemington, with his most recent being in the $100,000 Rain Lover Handicap on January 12.
Tuscan Fire has won nine of his 39 race starts in total and has earned more than $300,000 in prize money.
The Tuscanos gelding was ridden by Boss in both his previous race wins and the jockey is confident he can continue on to the Adelaide Cup 2013.
Tuscan Fire is also a top jumps horse, winning three of his six jumps races last season.
Trainer Dan O’Sullivan believes Tuscan Fire may have earned himself a season away form jumps racing to focus on some Group flat features.
“There’s still 2014 – we might hold back for a year,” O’Sullivan said.
“He’s still a young horse. It’s nice running around in $100,000 races without 12 hurdles popping up in front of you.
“Besides, he made a few mistakes over the jumps last season.”
O’Sullivan feels the jumps racing stint has worked to Tuscan Fire’s advantage.
“It’s certainly helped him mentally. Jumping gets them fit but also fit in the mind,” he said.
“Bossy doesn’t think we’re aiming too high (with an Adelaide Cup campaign).”
