The Heat Is On For My Ex Mate In The 2013 Adelaide Cup

March 8th, 2013

Trainer Peter Blanch is concerned over the continuing hot weather in South Australia leading up to Monday’s 2013 Adelaide Cup.

Blanch will line galloper My Ex Mate up for the Group Adelaide Cup next Monday March 13, 2013, after his last start win.

My Ex Mate won the Group 3 Lord Reims Stakes at Morphettville Racecourse by two and a half lengths on March 2.

However, the five-year-old has not performed in the severe heat in the past, and with 38 degrees forecast for Adelaide on Monday, the prediction does not bode well for My Ex Mate.

“He’s been very pleased with himself and looks a treat,” Blanch said.

“It’s a rubbish weather forecast for us, given his history but we are going to roll the dice.

“We’re taking a few extra precautions to ensure he’s fully hydrated before the race, but until you turn up you just don’t know.

“It’s not so much the heat as the humidity that gets to him, and you can’t predict how that will be until the day.”

My Ex Mate has won nine of his 27 race starts and has earned more than $220,000 in prize money during his career.

The Not A Single Doubt gelding will be looking to salute over the Adelaide Cup’s 3,200 metre distance for the first time.
