Trainer Tony McEvoy is yet to saddle a victor in the featured Group 2 Adelaide Cup (3200m), but is set to be offered two good chances of success in 2015 via stable mates Lucky Lucky Lucky and Pelicano.
Securing five wins and a further eight minor place finishes from his 26 competitive starts so far, Lucky Lucky Lucky has returned to racing in exceptional form this time in; taking out the Rain Lover Plate (1950m) first-up before placing second in each of the Listed Birthday Cup (2032m) and Group 3 Lord Reims Stakes (2600m) most recently.
Confirmed he will likely accept with both runners, McEvoy is particularly excited by the chances of Lucky Lucky Lucky.
“I think I’ll run them both,” McEvoy told Racing Ahead.
“Lucky Lucky Lucky has pulled up really well and he just made too long a run last time out.
“He just had to peak, got to the front, looked the winner and his run ended, but if you watch the tape and how far he had to make a run from, you could forgive him.”
Pelicano is yet to find peak condition this year, but McEvoy believes he will react favourably to the step-up to two miles for the 2015 Adelaide Cup.
“Pelicano he hasn’t quite found his form back this fellow,” he said.
“His run in the Launceston Cup, he ran fourth – I thought it was a pass mark and it was the run of a two-miler to me so that’s why I thought we’d run him as well.”
Placing eighth in the Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) first-up on December 13th, Pelicano has steadily built to the task and ran fifth in the Group 3 Hobart Cup (2400m) a fortnight prior to his Launceston Cup fourth.
The 2015 Adelaide Cup final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
