Signoff was unlucky to miss the majority of the 2015 Australian racing calendar through injury but returned on Boxing Day for an impressive win in the Listed Lord Stakes (1700m) at Caulfield in Melbourne.

McGregor told The Advertiser Signoff’s ideal allocated of barrier 2 all but confirmed the talented stayer for a start in the 2016 Adelaide Cup, and the team are hopeful he can continue his resounding form through the Group 2 feature.

“He’ll probably run but we’ll just have to see if he’s perfect,” McGregor said.

“We’ve just got to make sure the horse is in good order and we’ll be there, I reckon.

“I want to run him for sure. It’s a good race and it’s good prizemoney. Hopefully it’s onwards and upwards.”

Connections remain hopeful of saddling Signoff for a second attempt at the Melbourne Cup in November, and were pleased to hear a win in the Adelaide Cup would not likely affect his weighting in the Race That Stops a Nation.

“He (Racing Victoria Chief Handicapper Greg Carpenter) said that given where we’ve got him at the moment, he didn’t think there’d likely be a big movement in his (Melbourne Cup) handicap if he were to win,” McGregor added.

A strong and consistent performer since first appearing on course competitively for trainer Darren Weir in 2013, Signoff has posted a commendable nine wins and four minors through only eighteen starts.

Arguably posting career-best form to date during the 2014 Spring Carnival, Signoff finishing ninth in the Group 3 JRA Cup (2040m); progressing to second in the Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m) and third in the Group 3 David Jones Cup (2000m).

Taking out the Group 3 Lexus Stakes (2500m) at Flemington on November 1st, Signoff took advantage of ballot-free entry into the Melbourne Cup and charged home for an impressive fourth.

Progressing to second in the Listed Torney Night Cup (2500m) after his Lord Stakes win this time, Signoff will carry winning form into the Adelaide Cup after taking out the Group 3 Lord Reims Stakes (2600m) at Morphettville on March 5th.
