A talented field of eighteen has been confirmed for Monday’s featured 2016 Group 2 Adelaide Cup (3200m) at Morphettville Racecourse; offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Signoff is arguably the field’s class runner and remains clear $2.05 favourite in 2016 Adelaide Cup betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of stable mate Real Love ($3.50) and in-form stayer Swacadelic ($12).
Will Signoff continue his slick run of form through the Adelaide Cup or will one of his talented rivals post a major upset?
While charged with carrying a race-high 59kgs, Signoff’s proven ability at the class and distance coupled with his impressive form means he will be very hard to beat in the Adelaide Cup 2016. A standout for Darren Weir through the 2014 Spring Carnival, the Authorized gelding ran second in the Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m) before placing third in the Group 3 David Jones Cup (2000m). Gaining ballot-free entry into the Melbourne Cup with success in the Group 3 Lexus Stakes (2500m), Signoff capped his year fourth in the Race That Stops a Nation. Unlucky to miss the majority of 2015 with injury, Signoff resumed this time for success in the Listed Lord Stakes (1700m) and has since finished second in the Listed Torney Night Cup (2500m) and won the Group 3 Lord Reims Stakes (2600m).
Like A Carousel ($34)
Like A Carousel has more experience over two miles than any other runner in the 2016 Adelaide Cup field and is over the odds at a current quote of $34 for success or $7.60 for a top three finish. Having finished second in the Listed Sandown Cup (3200m) twice, Like A Carousel returned to racing last year for eighth in the Listed Mornington Cup Prelude (2000m); progressing to a luckless run for ninth in the Listed Mornington Cup (2400m) before producing arguably a career-best performance to date to finish third in the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m). Charged with carrying only 54kgs, the Helike gelding is more than capable of causing damage in the Adelaide Cup at big odds.
Real Love ($3.50)
Former Perth mare Real Love has returned to racing in typically scintillating form this time and is sure to lay a great account for herself in the Adelaide Cup, but is yet to be trialled at the distance. Capping her final Perth campaign third behind Delicacy and Neverland in the Group 2 Perth Cup (2400m) on January 2nd, the Desert King mare debuted for Darren Weir with a strong run for second in the Doriemus Handicap (2000m) on January 30th. Making a strong return to black type company when third in the Torney Night Cup, Real Love will carry winning form into the Adelaide Cup after taking out the Listed Roy Higgins Quality (2600m) at Flemington on March 5th.
