Capacity 2017 Adelaide Cup Field Confirmed

March 8th, 2017

A talented and capacity field of twenty stayers and three emergencies has been confirmed for Monday’s featured 2017 Group 2 Adelaide Cup (3200m); highlighted by the inclusion of some of the Autumn Carnival’s most exciting stayers.

Master Of Arts returned to winning form at Morphettville over the weekend and has drawn ideally into the 2017 Adelaide Cup field in barrier 6.

Posting seven wins and a further five minors through his twenty career starts, Master Of Arts resumed in December for fourth-consecutive fourth place finishes, but failed to produce much when eighth in the Listed Torney Night Cup (2500m) on February 17th.

Having stormed home to win the Group 3 Lord Reims Stakes (2600m) most recently, the Mastercraftsman entire will be partnered by Damian Lane in the Adelaide Cup 2017.

Trainer Darren Weir has confirmed a two-pronged attack in the Adelaide Cup field, after also accepting a position for Lord Van Percy.

De Little Engine has returned to racing in smart form this time, but will undoubtedly require luck in running on Monday, after drawing into the Adelaide Cup field in the awkward barrier 22.

De Little Engine was a strong and consistent performer for trainer Danny O’Brien in spring and produced a big effort to finish mid-pack in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m).

Progressing to fourth placed finishes in the Group 3 Lexus Stakes (2500m) and Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2500m), the Encosta De Lago gelding was turned out after finishing fifth in the Listed Sandown Cup (3200m) on November 12th.

With a view towards contesting the Adelaide Cup third-up, De Little Engine has finished second in the Handicap (1800m) and fourth in the Listed Roy Higgins Quality (2600m) so-far this time.

Macedon Lodge are known for their standout stayers and the prominent operation will be represented in the 2017 Adelaide Cup by Chance To Dance.

Chance To Dance returned to the races for a credible fourth in the Swettenham Stud Championship Heat 8 (1600m) on January 7th, before running second in the Craftsman Handicap (2000m) only one week later.

Placing third in the Bitalli Handicap (2000m) on January 28th, the Teofilo gelding returned to winning form in the Mal Seccull Handicap (2400m) before running second in the Torney Night Cup last time out.

Chance To Dance has been charged with overcoming a race-high 58kgs in the Adelaide Cup, but will jump from the ideal barrier 3 with in-form hoop Ben Melham in the saddle.
